CES 2021: WHAT WE SAW AND WHAT HAPPENED NEXT
Last year’s exhibition was held entirely online due to the pandemic. 644 startups and corporations participated n CES 2021.
The categories of exhibitions are always diverse: from 5G technologies and cybersecurity to fitness gadgets and smart homes.
WHAT DID CORPORATIONS SHOW OFF AT CES 2021?
First of all, there were many new laptop models. This is typical of CES, as new laptops always mean updates on the latest technologies, supporting 5G and Wi-Fi 6.
We’ll show you a couple of examples.
Dual-display laptop by Lenovo
ThinkBook Plus Gen 2 has two screens, as demonstrated on CES in 2021. These days, you can find it in stores worldwide.

A foldable smartphone from LG
LG Rollable changes the screen size to fit in your pocket. The technology isn’t a breakthrough: the first bending smartphones released by Huawei and Samsung were not popular. However, with a foldable TV that sells well, LG could improve a new smartphone to make it more appealing to users.

Other exhibits from prominent startups are not new — simply improvements to existing gadgets. Many people who follow CES novelties argue about the regression of technology.
HOW DID STARTUPS SURPRISE US AT CES 2021?
Many technology startups on CES 2021 demonstrated devices and solutions for smart homes, household robotization, health, and ecology.
Let us give two striking examples from last year’s exhibition.
Heatbox: a self-heating lunchbox
The creators invented a special kind of steam to warm up food in the container. The heating mode is changeable via asn app. Technology is simple but vital for students, travelers, and all people working outside offices.
The fate of this project is unknown. However, the Heatbox page on the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter still exists and was updated a month ago. Perhaps the creators have difficulty financing the series. Kickstarter users can order Heatbox for about €81.

Pal-V Liberty: a flying car
Flying cars exist not only in movies and books. The PAL-V startup has been developing and modernizing its own kind of flying car since 2001. The prototype, already ready for mass production, was demonstrated at CES in 2019, followed by an upgrade in 2021.
These days, the company is building a factory to assemble flying cars. Sales are scheduled to start in 2022, and the cost of PAL-V will be from €300,000.

CES IN LAS VEGAS: 2022, JANUARY 5
What do you expect from CES 2022? Sony, Nvidia, Bosch, Lenovo, WarnerMedia and other corporations are invited. For a more detailed list of participants, go to the official website of CES 2022.
The organizers also promise that we all will marvel at 60 new startups participating in CES for the first time.
The new exhibition will work offline, opening doors to all vaccinated visitors. However, some of the industry’s giants decided to stay online: Intel, Google, Amazon, Meta, Twitter, Pinterest, etc. They will present their new technologies at CES 2022 in the online format.
What will be at CES 2022 in Las Vegas? New technological solutions will, as always, have a variety of categories. You can find CES 2022 location and schedule on the official website.
What’s new? Some novelties of 2022 include NFT, space exploration, and food tech.
A particular focus is on robotics in cooking. For example, Beyond Honeycomb will demonstrate a built-in robotic kitchen with artificial intelligence capable of recreating any restaurant recipe.
The official website for CES 2022 promises unexpected technologies and innovations. Here are some examples.
- The world’s first automated race, organized by Indy Autonomous Challenge, will take place on January 7, 2022, at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
- A spaceplane by Sierra Space will be displayed in the central square for all visitors of CES 2022 to see first.
- Driveless trucks by TuSimple will come too.
IN A NUTSHELL
CES 2022 will be amazing to watch. However, no one expects to see technologies that could change our lives dramatically — as it was with a tablet in 2010, a DVD in 1996, or a home video recorder in 1970.
Most viewers know what they will see: some anticipated updates without revolutionary innovations, including game and VR expansions.
