Continental Clothing Co.

Continental Clothing Company Limited is a multi-award winning manufacturer and direct wholesale distributor of ready-to-print T-shirts, sweatshirts, young fashion and children’s wear since 1994. It became incorporated in England and Wales in 1998.

  • The story behind Continental Clothing

Continental Clothing Company is a company that focuses on creating high-quality and responsibly made garments for markets such as fashion retail, music, corporate events and leisure. A company representative, Norman, asked us to finalize and implement new functionalities for their existing site.

  • Analysis

One of the reasons why online stores have grown over the years is the experience that businesses can provide to their customers. Modern companies are adding new features and services for online shoppers to provide them with the same support and comfort they would have during a personal shopping experience. And our task was just to add some new features and capabilities for a more comfortable and convenient choice of products.

  • Our solutions

We have developed an interface that allows distributors to select the product of interest, to customize it by choosing the appropriate colors and sizes, and to make an order. Moreover, the client simplified the accomplishment of the public Rest API for the implementation of other services with a single database.

Designed the UI/UX

We did not have to develop a unique style, because the basis of the site had already existed, so we continued to develop the existing style. Therefore, several unique user interface elements have been developed taking into account the current color scheme. After analyzing the entire site, we proposed improvements in UX, as it was not convenient to navigate and select products in the previous version of the site. This allowed us to increase the conversion and interest of the system’s users.

Developed the frontend
Developed the frontend

We continued developing on jQuery and pure JavaScript as the client did not want to change the existing stack. Meanwhile, lots of modules have been optimized for faster work of the client’s part and the layout was optimized as well. Such solutions as LazyLoading for images were added, which significantly increased the comfort and usability of the system. One of the main functionalities that we developed in this system was an interface for selecting clothes of interest for such parameters as category, type, size, color, manufacturing technology and weight. Buyers can also familiarize themselves with existing product variations in the model gallery.

Developed the backend
Developed the backend

The server part of the application had to be completely rewritten because previously it was intended only for the distribution of static pages. We chose the modern NodeJs technology for the development of the backend, and we used PostgreSQL for the data storage. The choice fell on SQL since the system was designed to store large amounts of data, and this selection fully meets all the necessary requirements. We created a public RestAPI with the help of the NodeJs technology that allows people to develop other sites and applications for distributors using a single database. A standard distributor registration system was implemented as well. The entire codebase was fully documented and ready for further support and expansion.

Implemented features

The ability to support the required number of languages was implemented through taking out all the words from the site into the dictionary system. As a result, the person can add a new language just adding a new dictionary with the translation of the site content.

As it was already mentioned, one of the key parts of the user interface on this site is the selection and filtering of the necessary products. As a result, an interactive system for filtering and viewing products of interest according to specified and relevant filters was developed.

A standard system search was implemented as well.

A registration was developed for distributors, where the user could provide all the necessary data about him for further verification and the issuance of a license to sell Continental Clothing products

The implementation of the public RestAPI allowed other distribution companies to develop their own systems for the sale of existing and relevant Continental Clothing products.
